Matthew D. Smith President, Director of Development Services

Matt specializes in upscale hospitality and residential development. He manages complex and challenging multi-million dollar construction projects by uniquely positioning himself as a knowledgeable collaborator, negotiator, and administrator on behalf of owners. He has a proven track record of delivering complex luxury development projects on time and on budget.

Matt began his career at an environmental engineering firm performing due diligence to support development projects in the Southeast United States. Through this work he met the owners of Blackberry Farm, a very small boutique hotel with plans to expand. Matt assisted with creating the master development plan for the resort and has served as the Director of Development for that organization through its greatest period of growth including the creation of the sister property Blackberry Mountain. In 2019 Matt formed MDSLP to assist other clients with resort development and to represent select clients building luxury homes at the resorts. MDSLP successfully completed the renovation of High Hampton in Cashiers, NC, several renovations and an expansion of the Swag in Waynesville, NC, and is currently assisting with master planning and expansion of Twin Farms in Barnard, VT.
